Gates police recovered two assault weapons and found nearly four pounds of marijuana after a reported house explosion Friday.

Michael Deguglielmo, 30, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Officers and firefighters from the Gates Fire Department responded to 306 Rossmore Drive, just off Lyell Avenue, at 1:15 p.m. for an explosion.

Two windows and a glass door were “blown out by the blast,” Gates Police Chief Jim VanBrederode said.

VanBrederode said the refrigerator door was also blown off its hinges. Officers found Pure322 organic solvent, which is an aerosol agent used to extract plant oils. VanBrederode said the cans likely caused the explosion.

Officers recovered 3.8 pounds of marijuana and two “illegal assault weapons, including an AR-15,” VanBrederode said.

Deguglielmo was arraigned in Gates Town Court in front of Judge Peter Pupatelli and released on his recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court at 4 p.m. Aug. 7.
